Bud Erickson

Bud Erickson was an administrator on a major scale. He was Tournament Director for four major championships at Oakland Hills, the 1979 PGA Championship, won by David Graham, the 1981 U.S. Senior Open won by Arnold Palmer, the 1985 U.S. Open won by Andy North and the 1991 U.S. Senior Open won by Jack Nicklaus.

Additionally, while Executive Director of the Ladies Professional Golf Association the schedule expanded, purses tripled and he started the Dinah Shore tournament which is an LPGA major.

Erickson was a man for all sports seasons. After graduating from Michigan State in 1948, where he lettered in baseball, he became Public Relations Director for the Detroit Lions and they won three “majors” – the 1952, 1953 and 1957 National Football League championships.

Erickson also served as Executive Director of the Golf Association of Michigan in 1980-83.
