Robert McMasters

Robert McMasters is widely respected and admired for his distinguished career as a player and for his invaluable leadership to the Golf Association of Michigan, the Western Golf Association and the Evans Scholar Program. Starting as a caddie at Red Run Golf Club, he was a member of the Royal Oak High School 1951 State Championship Team. In 1952, he was the Michigan High School Individual Champion and qualified for the U.S. Junior Championship.

McMasters was captain of the University of Michigan golf team in 1955 and 1956 and was President of the Evans Scholar Chapter. He qualified for the Michigan Amateur 12 times and was co-medalist twice. He won numerous titles at Red Run Golf Club and qualified for six USGA Championships including the U.S. Junior, U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Senior Amateur. He served as a Director of the Western Golf Association for 20 years and was the first Michigander to be elected President.

McMasters also served the Golf Association of Michigan for 25 years and was elected President in 1999. Co-founder of the Michigan Mid-Amateur Championship, he received the GAM’s Distinguished Service Award in 2003.

McMasters also served as President and co-chairman of the Michigan Golf Foundation which oversees the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.
