Bob Ackerman grew up playing 5,500-yard Pebblewood Country Club in hometown Bridgman where he learned to chip to small greens and tried to break his father’s course record of 60. Bob’s best was 62 but he did more than match his dad’s large trophy collection.
He starred on Indiana University’s NCAA Championship team, was Second Team All-American with Peter Jacobsen and Craig Stadler, won the Michigan Open as a 22-year-old amateur and repeated 28 years later as a professional.
He won PGA championships in Michigan, Minnesota, New York and 13 in Illinois with five of them at match play where he treated each shot as if it was the last one.
He not only learned how to play the game but how to teach it, attaining the rank of Master Professional. He currently runs Bob Ackerman Golf in the Detroit area.
