Don Perné had a notable playing career, including playing briefly on the PGA Tour, and was one of the first six golf professionals to earn PGA Master Professional status.
He considered helping found the landmark Professional Golf Management program at Ferris State University as his top achievement. It was first of its kind sanctioned by the PGA of America in the U.S.
At Michigan State University, he was captain of the golf team and a drum major for the marching band.
His career as a golf professional started in Michigan at St. Clair River Country Club and included positions in Ohio, New Jersey and Delaware. While at the prestigious Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, Perné was host professional for two PGA Championships. Throughout his career he was heavily involved in caddie program development and teaching the game of golf.
Perné was inducted into three other Golf Halls of Fame along with Michigan – Northern Ohio, Ohio, and Toledo. He died in 2015 at age 86 in Sylvania, OH.
