Jeff Roth has won more than 70 professionals tournaments, including 17 Michigan PGA major individual championships, a number which ties him with Scott Hebert, who is also in the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.
His first state title came as a junior golfer in the 1973 GAM Junior Championship, and in 1974 and ’75 he earned all-state honors as a high school golfer.
His two biggest state wins are the 1998 and 2004 Michigan Open titles, but he has also won five Michigan PGA Professional Championships, six of the Tournament of Champions titles and two Michigan Match Play titles for the Michigan career “Grand Slam.”
A golf professional since 1979, he has qualified several times for the PGA Professional Championship and from there multiple times for the PGA Championship among the best players in the world. That has continued in the senior ranks where he has won two Michigan Senior PGA Championships and played in the Senior PGA and the U.S. Senior Open as part of his career total of 19 appearances in national majors.
In 2018 he returned from working in recent years in New Mexico to work in Michigan for Boyne Resorts as a golf professional. He picked up where he left off winning the 2018 Michigan Senior Open, and with fellow Hall of Fame member Dan Pohl has won the last two Michigan PGA Pro-Pro titles.
In 2019 he once again beat the best players in the state in both the Michigan PGA Professional Championship and the Tournament of Champions.
Among his many career highlights is winning the last point in the 1996 PGA Cup Matches to win the Cup for the United States team. Roth won the last four holes to come from two-down with four to play for the winning point at Gleneagles in Scotland.
