Bill Curtis’s love for the game has deep and lasting roots. A treasured photo shows the 10-year-old caddie Curtis next to Jimmy Demaret at the 1943 Ryder Cup Exhibition Matches at Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield.
As an amateur golfer in Michigan, Curtis compiled an outstanding record. He qualified for 14 USGA championships including nine National Public Links events, one Mid-Amateur, and four Senior Amateurs. In addition to reaching the semi-finals of the Michigan Amateur four times, Curtis won the 1993 GAM Senior Amateur.
Off the course, Curtis also distinguished himself for exemplary service. He served as President for four years of the Michigan Publinx Golf Association which he first joined in 1959 and was inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame in 1991.
Curtis also served on the Golf Association of Michigan’s Board of Governors from 1987 to 1997.
