Gordon LaFontaine was a force in the turfgrass industry in Michigan and nationwide for nearly half-a-century.
As Executive Director of the Michigan Turfgrass Foundation for 36 years, and on a volunteer basis, he traveled the globe in support of his life’s passion and raised significant dollars for the Michigan State University Turf Team. He helped to fund $120,000 annually in direct donations and was largely responsible for over a million dollars a year from in-kind donations of equipment and products.
The owner of a public golf course in Houghton Lake, his areas of achievement and support were not limited to fundraising.
LaFontaine was a leader of the highest order and made an impact on every major turfgrass project in the country in both private and public sectors for many years. He did it with an exemplary selflessness and a true spirit that is embodied in being a member of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.
